The General Hospital U. Gregorio Marañón (Madrid) with H. U. Ramón y Cajal (Madrid) have organized, with the help of Formedika, the first international congress "S.O.R.G. 4C's Update on Maxillofacial Surgery: concepts, controversies, complications and conclusions". From the 17th to the 19th of October, almost 300 professionals from all over the world met in the auditorium of the Universitiy Hospital Gregorio Marañón to attend this event which was directed by Prof. Dr. Julio Acero (Head of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Service, H. U. Ramón y Cajal/Puerta de Hierro, Madrid) and Prof. Dr. José Ignacio Salmerón (Head of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Service, Hospital General Gregorio Marañón, Madrid).
Although there are more and more courses and congresses on Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, there are very few that combine: facial traumatology, facial reconstruction, craniofacial malformations and orthognathic surgery to give a multidisciplinary approach to the professionals of this specialty. Therefore, this Congress has responded to the demand of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons to have a current and multidisciplinary knowledge of these areas.
Given that novelties are continually being introduced in these fields, there have been presentations by the best specialists worldwide so that Spanish professionals can familiarize with the application of the most current procedures.
If one thing became clear during the Congress, it was that 3D printing has meant a revolution in the development of prostheses made from virtual planning. The Gregorio Marañón University Hospital is one of the pioneers in using this type of technique because it has a multidisciplinary team that has developed a high level of complexity in printing, planning and obtaining moulds to establish personalized, high-precision cutting guides.
In addition to the high scientific level of the congress, attendees and speakers have praised the work of Formedika for an impeccable organization. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your assistance and support.
