The II Edition of “Anatomy Applied to Neurosurgery: The Evandro de Oliveira Legacy” Concludes Successfully

The II Edition of the Microneurosurgical & Endoscopic Hands-on Course: Anatomy Applied to Neurosurgery – The Evandro de Oliveira Legacy was held in Valencia, Spain, from June 27 to July 2, 2026, further establishing itself as an internationally recognized educational program in the field of neurosurgery. The course was directed by Dr. Vicent Quilis-Quesada (Chief of the Neurosurgery Department at the University Clinical Hospital of Valencia), and co-directed by Dr. Ali F. Krisht (USA), Dr. Wen Hung Tzu (Brazil), Dr. Carolina Martins (Brazil), Dr. Juan Carlos Fernández-Miranda (USA), Dr. Mateus Reghin (Brazil) and Dr. Pablo Rubino (Argentina).

The scientific programme was further strengthened by the participation of international faculty members Dr. João Paulo Almeida (USA), Dr. Ruben Dammers (The Netherlands) and Dr. Marcello D'Andrea (Italy), bringing together an outstanding teaching faculty. This edition welcomed neurosurgeons from Spain, Oman, Switzerland, Brazil, Portugal, Cyprus, North Macedonia, Italy, the Dominican Republic, Belgium, Germany and Venezuela, creating an enriching environment for scientific exchange and collaboration among professionals from different healthcare systems.

Over six intensive days, participants combined theoretical sessions with an extensive programme of anatomical dissections, integrating in-depth anatomical knowledge with its direct application to neurosurgical practice. The post-course evaluation reflected an excellent level of satisfaction, with participants highlighting the overall quality of the course, the relevance of the scientific content and its impact on their daily clinical practice.

Among the aspects most appreciated by attendees were the hands-on dissection sessions, the combination of lectures and laboratory training, the high quality of the anatomical specimens and the educational approach, which successfully translated anatomical knowledge into real-life neurosurgical applications. Many participants also reported that the course had strengthened their understanding of surgical anatomy and increased their confidence when approaching complex neurosurgical procedures.

Following the success of this second edition, preparations are already underway for the next course, which will take place from June 29 to July 4, 2027. Beyond the scientific knowledge acquired, the course has become a meeting point for neurosurgeons from around the world who share a commitment to excellence in neurosurgery and a passion for advancing surgical anatomy.
