This course, held at the Experimental Microsurgery Laboratory (idiPAZ) of Hospital Universitario La Paz in Madrid from June 9th to 12th, 2026, provides an intensive program of theoretical updating and innovative hands-on training in experimental vascular microsurgery.
It is oriented toward international neurosurgeons, as well as surgeons and other trainees from related specialties who work in close collaboration with neurosurgery. The program combines experimental and clinical lectures with extensive practical training using non-living, “ex vivo”, and “in vivo” models, aiming to develop advanced microsurgical skills with direct clinical applicability.
Practical sessions are conducted under expert supervision in a high-level training environment, supported by high-definition video systems, ensuring optimal learning conditions.

Tuesday 9th, June 2026
The first day focuses on applied vascular microsurgery and the foundations of end-to-end microanastomosis. Participants will attend lectures on lymphatic microanastomoses, facial palsy treatment using microsurgical techniques, and the principles and clinical applications of end-to-end anastomosis. The practical sessions include aneurysm clipping in an ex vivo simulator and multiple hands-on exercises in rat models, covering standard and caliber-discrepant anastomoses, as well as quality testing in small-caliber vessels.
Wednesday 10th, June 2026
This day is dedicated to end-to-side microvascular anastomosis and its clinical applications. Theoretical sessions address arterio-venous fistulas, brain arteriovenous malformations, and cerebral bypass surgery. Hands-on training focuses on end-to-side anastomosis techniques in different rat vascular territories, including carotid and femoral vessels, with systematic evaluation of technical quality in submillimetric vessels.
Thursday 11th, June 2026
The program continues with advanced applied vascular microsurgery, focusing on cerebral blood flow dynamics in occlusive disease and the principles of side-to-side microvascular anastomosis. Practical sessions are devoted to performing side-to-side anastomoses in rat carotid arteries, followed by a free practice period that allows participants to consolidate skills under expert supervision.
Friday 12th, June 2026
The final day is devoted to completion of practical training, final assessment of acquired microsurgical skills, course evaluation, and the awarding of certificates, marking the conclusion of an intensive hands-on learning experience in experimental vascular microneurosurgery.
