The 8th Mapping Course Bellvitge 2025 brings together specialists and participants from around the world

From November 25th to 28th, 2025, the University Hospital of Bellvitge (Barcelona) hosted the 8th Mapping Course, an international benchmark event in functional neurosurgery and awake surgery. The 2025 edition brought together renowned specialists and participants from multiple countries, consolidating the course as a key platform for knowledge exchange and advanced practical training.

The course was led by Dr. Andreu Gabarrós (Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery and Director of the Brain Mapping Program), with the support of co-directors: Dr. Alejandro Fernández-Coello, Dr. Isabel Fernández-Conejero, and Dr. Gerard Plans. This edition also featured prestigious international invited speakers, including Dr. Hugues Duffau (Montpellier, France), Dr. Emmanuel Mandonnet (Paris, France), Dr. Juan Martino (Cantabria, Spain), and Dr. Francesco Sala (Verona, Italy), who shared their expertise and provided a global perspective that enriched the participants’ practical training experience.

This year, the course welcomed participants from Spain, Costa Rica, Mexico, Argentina, France, Canada, Ukraine, Brazil, the United Kingdom, and Lithuania, reflecting the program’s growing international reach and the interest it generates among professionals from various disciplines.

The program also included the Neuropsychological Assistance Workshop, a session focused on neuropsychological strategies in awake surgery, covering everything from preoperative assessment to intraoperative mapping and case analysis, further reinforcing the multidisciplinary nature of the course. Furthermore, as in the previous edition, three student scholarships were awarded for participation in the workshop over the full three days. These scholarships were granted to one national student (Spain), one international student, and one European student, providing them with the opportunity to gain exceptional practical training alongside internationally renowned specialists.

Participant feedback was exceptionally positive. Many highlighted the excellence of the teaching team, the clarity and practical applicability of the content, and the impeccable organization of the course. Several attendees described the experience as “extremely useful”, “very comprehensive” and “a unique learning opportunity” emphasizing the direct impact of the course on their professional practice. The active participation of international speakers and the local team was particularly valued, reinforcing the course’s reputation as a top-tier educational reference.

The 8th Mapping Course Bellvitge 2025 concluded by reaffirming its international projection and multidisciplinary character. The organizers extend their gratitude to the directors, co-directors, invited speakers, and participants for their enthusiasm and commitment, which make it possible for the course to continue growing and consolidating its status as a benchmark event in functional neurosurgery.
